The Vehicle Identification Number, or chassis number is located on the (VIN) Plate at the right hand side of the underbonnet area (opposite side to the battery). The VIN can also be found on your vehicle registration certificate.

On January 1, 2014, a vehicle registration certificate in a credit card format was introduced in the Netherlands. The chassis number is also located on this new vehicle registration certificate. Gradually, this new card will replace the two-piece paper vehicle registration certificate. In 2019, all paper vehicle registration certificates are expected to have been replaced by vehicle registration cards. Therefore, until then, two types of vehicle registration certificates are used for Dutch vehicles.
